Dealing with the Social Isolation of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Exercise influences the immune system by reducing the risk of lifestyle diseases like diabetes-type 2, heart disease, and hypertension, among others. Physical activity also amplifies anti-inflammatory action, improves mood & sleep, and reduces psychological stress. Therefore, we are encouraged to stay active during the lockdown period since research has shown that failing to exercise for a few days can negate previous health efforts.
Good nutrition plays a key role in boosting the immune system and helps us get the full benefit from exercise. Even though exercise and good nutrition do not reduce the risk of contracting Coronavirus, poor nutrition and inactivity may negatively affect someone’s recovery process-as reported with other respiratory viruses like the flu virus. Good nutrition and exercise will not only improve recovery if Coronavirus infection occurs, but will promote health, well-being, and lower the chances of contracting other illnesses.
