NATURAL MOOD REGULATION IS LOW OR ABSENT IN PEOPLE WITH DEPRESSION

This selection of mood-regulating activities to regulate mood seems to occur naturally through a process described as mood homeostasis. Researchers in a new study that involved 58,328 people, found that natural mood regulation is low or absent in persons with depression. Their result suggests that helping people to select activities that will improve their mood may be a way to address depression.

The current lockdown and social isolation due to COVID-19 is likely to push many people towards depression. The situation is challenging because activities that may help address depression may not be accessible.   80% of the 264 million people in the world, who suffer from depression, come from low or middle-income countries.
