Mothers who breastfeed have a lower risk of heart disease

Breastfeeding is associated with a long list of health benefits to the mother, including lower risk of postpartum depression, some forms of cancer, and diabetes. What is new in this study is that breastfeeding was found to be associated with a lower risk of heart disease. This observation is likely real because the benefit was greater in women who breastfed for longer periods. If one adds this new observation to the other known benefits of breastfeeding to the mother and baby, it becomes clear that breastfeeding is the best, hands down.
