According to recent reports, there has been an outbreak of Diphtheria in some parts of Nigeria.
Now what exactly is 'DIPHTHERIA'?
Diphtheria is a highly contagious disease caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheriae. Toxins produced by the bacteria cause inflammation and swelling of the throat, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, and choking.
The toxin also damages the heart and essential nerves. Diphtheria was once a leading cause of death worldwide.
The good news is, there is a vaccine for this contagious disease.
