Smart Glasses Take Telemedicine to the Next Level

Telemedicine enables health providers to treat patients without in-person contact. In its basic form, telemedicine involves a phone call between provider and patient, while video conferencing is sometimes added to provide visual interaction. Researchers are now testing smart glasses as a new technology to take telemedicine to the next level.

The way it works is simple. First, one healthcare worker, who is with the patient, puts on the smart glasses and interacts with the patient. The smart glasses then captures images and information about the patient that is transmitted to another doctor located elsewhere, all in real-time. If ongoing studies are successful, the smart glasses technology would be attractive in different settings.
