International Day for Persons with Disability: Nigerian Police Creates Special for Person Living with Disability

Good news for persons living with disability as the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has approved a special desk in all police commands across the country to assist persons living with disability. The Police boss said this is to mark this year’s international day for persons with disability on 3 December, 2021.

IGP Usman Alkali Baba said the decision followed a series of discussions with the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disability, James David Lalu, aimed at protecting the rights and privileges of citizens with any form of disability within the country and preventing stigmatization and stereotyping of persons with disability. The desk will serve as an advocacy unit to help persons with disability access policing services easily. So in cases where persons with disability face discrimination at the workplace or in public, there is a special center for them across all police units to hasten justice delivery.

The police boss says the force has commenced training for police officers that would serve as Disability Desk Officers in the unit.
