For the first time, drones have now been recruited to join the fight against tuberculosis. An international team funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is testing the use of drones to pick up patient samples and deliver tuberculosis medications in over 50 villages in Madagascar. This ingenious use of drone technology has the potential to extend treatment of tuberculosis and other diseases to remote parts of Africa. It can also prove valuable in addressing future epidemics.
