more prone to persistent behavioral or emotional problems later in life? The answer to this, according to recent research, is they are not at an increased risk. Of note, parents reported more behavioral/emotional problems when the children were between 3-5 years of age, perhaps reflecting their own anxiety. In later years, children born through MAR did slightly better than those conceived naturally, but this seems to be explained by parental characteristics such as high educational attainment and relative affluence.

“We know that children who are wanted and who have caring parents tend to do better emotionally and behaviorally. Our research shows that this remains true however a child is conceived,” said a lead researcher.
