Chronic Internet exposure may alter how the brain works

As more people gain access to the internet around the world and spend increasing amounts of time on it, we tend to forget that the internet is also gaining access into our lives and more. In fact, it appears chronic Internet use can lead to changes in how some parts of the brain function, and even possibly alter certain brain structures. These effects may be long-lasting, according to the researchers. Behaviors that may be affected include ability to maintain attention, retain new information and interact socially. How much internet exposure is too much for an adult? This is not clear. SImple measures such as restricting the urge to check incoming electronic mails/messages continuously, and taking a break from the internet at selected times during the day, may help curb total internet exposure.
