Are we letting young people down by not discussing mental health and suicide with them?
Did you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death in young people globally? Why then is "suicide" one of the words we all tend to shy away from using? Could this avoidance be harmful in the long run? These researchers think so. They found that even health professionals shy away from using the word "suicide" so much that children and young people with suicidal feelings typically do not know where or how to get help, and may not feel health professionals understand their situation.
Mental health of young people should take center stage in our rapidly changing world.
