Artificial intelligence helps predict future risk of breast cancer
Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. As such, there is interest in finding ways to detect this cancer early and even predict a woman's risk. Breast density is one of the factors considered when assessing the risk of breast cancer. A limitation, however, is that assessment of breast density is inconsistent between radiologists. Some researchers have now used artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle this problem. They found that a method that included AI to assess breast density was more accurate in predicting the risk of breast cancer compared to older methods. The new AI method worked across different races, ages, and family histories.
