Drinking what would be considered moderate levels of alcohol elevates the risk of some forms of cancer. For women, it was estimated that the effect of drinking one bottle of wine per week is equivalent to the risk associated with smoking ten cigarettes per week. This is somewhat surprising but important to take note of. Men are not spared as one bottle of wine per week produced a risk similar to smoking five cigarettes per week.
