Sexually transmitted infections exceed 1 million per day
Over 1 million cases of sexually transmitted infections are reported every day in the 19-45 years age group, according to the WHO. The actual number of cases is a lot higher since many cases go unreported, and people younger as well as older than this age bracket do acquire sexually transmitted infections. One of the challenges with controlling these infections is that infected persons are sometimes unaware of the infection because they have no symptoms. This does not stop the infections from causing devastating complications such as infertility down the road.
