Transmission of COVID-19 from a pregnant woman to her baby is uncommon, and the risk of infection in the baby is not affected by the mode of delivery, breastfeeding, or contact with the infected mother, a new study reveals. The study is coming after reports had suggested that a cesarean birth reduced a baby’s risk of contracting COVID-19 from an infected mother and that such babies should have limited contact with their mothers and be formula-fed to lower their risk of COVID-19. The researchers reviewed over 49 studies that had reported on this topic.
