Nigeria to Join Countries Testing Madagascar’s COVID-19 Herbal Medicine
Nigeria’s Ministry of Health has requested samples of Madagascar’s touted COVID-19 medicine for clinical tests of its efficacy by the country’s agencies. The mixture, known as COVID-Organics, is said to have cured 55 patients of the disease in Madagascar, but this is not sufficient to declare it an effective treatment.
COVID-Organics was produced by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research using a sweet wormwood (Artermisia Annua), a plant of Asian origin, which is also the source of the anti-malarial drug, artemisinin. The primary ingredient of the mixture, Artemisia Annua, is also grown in Nigeria. The drug must be shown to be safe and effective for it to be recommended for use
