The Top 10 African Countries with High Infections and its Importance to Development
South Africa has the highest number of COVID-19 patients in Africa while Algeria has recorded the highest number of deaths. Other countries with a high number of infections in sub-Saharan Africa are Cameroun, Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Djibouti.
Apart from its obvious effects on the healthcare system, COVID also has an effect on the economy of these countries and their development goals. One expert, Mary NjeriKinyanjui, a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Nairobi’s Institute for Development Studies in Kenya, East Africa noted that, “it is time that economists, policy makers, investors and planners thought creatively on how to dialogue and prioritize, as a potential model and contribute to global sustainable development.”
