Is the world ready to tackle the growing number of people with dementia?
Dementia is a major challenge across the world and estimates of the number of people with dementia in 2017 were as high as 50 million. This number is expected to increase as people live longer across the globe. Everyone will have a role to play in responding to these challenges – it cannot just be the responsibility of health and social services, states a recent report. Beyond caring for persons with dementia, there will be a need to care for those caring for them as well. So much of the responsibility for supporting people with dementia falls on their family and friends, and we need to do more to support these caregivers.
